Irishman fighting for life after assault outside Sydney pub
A 23-year-old Irishman is fighting for his life after being assaulted outside a pub in Australia last week.
John Counihan, from Mallow in Co Cork, is on a life-support machine following the incident at a bar in the Bondi Beach area last Friday.
He is now in a serious condition at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Sydney after undergoing brain surgery.
Witnesses say the attack happened after an earlier altercation inside the pub.
Mr Counihan had apparently been apologetic after the row and offered to shake hands with the others involved, but they refused and lay in wait for him outside.
