The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, is to make a statement on RTÉ's Six One this evening about the money he received from a wealthy businessmen 13 years ago.
Mr Ahern has been under pressure for a number of days to explain the circumstances behind the payments, which are being investigated by the Mahon Tribunal.
He reportedly received between €50,000 and €100,000 from a number of wealthy friends to pay legal costs associated with his separation from his ex-wife, though he has described these figures as "off the wall".
Opposition parties have been pressing for more details about the situation, particularly the exact amount of money received, the purpose for the payments and whether any tax issues were involved.
They also want to know why the money was not declared to the Standards in Public Office Commission.
Mr Ahern was questioned about the matter during an engagement in Dublin this morning and confirmed that he would be making a statement "sometime during the day".
