Minister pushing take-up of carers’ welfare support

Minister for Social Affairs Seamus Brennan is seeking to increase the take-up of welfare supports available to carers.

The government is launching an awareness campaign for the carer's allowance, carer's benefit and the respite care grant.

Somewhere in the region of 27,000 carers receive the benefits at present, but the minister said he wants that to increase and said that restrictions on the allowances have been eased.
