Sligo man apologises for role in framing of McBreartys
A man who was found by the Morris Tribunal to have colluded with gardaí in the framing of the McBrearty family has apologised for his actions.
Sligo man Bernard Conlon, whose evidence has formed the basis of much of the tribunal's findings, told local radio in Co Donegal today that he regrets his involvement in the affair.
Mr Conlon says he was deliberately caught drinking after hours at a nightclub owned by the McBreartys as part of a scheme by certain gardaí to secure a conviction against the family.
He also claimed members of the family had threatened him with a "silver bullet" if he gave evidence in the case.
However, Mr Conlon changed his story when gardaí began an internal investigation into alleged corruption in Co Donegal.
