Gardaí have Co Kerry have formally launched a murder inquiry following the death of a 50-year-old homeless man in Tralee yesterday.

Eddie Joe Clancy was found seriously injured on a footpath at Bridge St in the early hours of yesterday morning and died later in hospital.

A post mortem was carried out yesterday, but the results have not been released.

Gardaí believe Mr Clancy was attacked by at least one assailant and are examining CCTV footage as part of their investigations.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Dublin are continuing their inquiry into the murder of 80-year-old Vincent Plunkett in the south of the city.

Mr Plunkett was found dead in his apartment on Cork St on Monday morning after having his throat cut during a violent assault.
