Raiders target Belfast bank
A security van was today targeted in a robbery at a bank in south Belfast.
Two people are believed to have been involved in the raid on the van outside the Ulster Bank on the Ormeau Road shortly after 11am.
There were unconfirmed reports that a person was stabbed during the incident.
The injured man was believed to have been a security guard.
Sources said he was taken to hospital with injuries to one of his arms.
The robbery was condemned by SDLP deputy leader Dr Alasdair McDonnell who represents the area at Westminster and Stormont.
“I condemn unreservedly this stupid robbery because of the serious damage it does to the image of Belfast and the Ormeau Road in particular,” the South Belfast MP said.
“I would urge anybody with any titbit of information – no matter how small - to put it in the hands of the police.
“Our sympathies also go to the security guard who has been attacked and injured in this incident.”
