Minister Brennan urged to correct pension problem
The Minister for Social and Family Affairs Seamus Brennan is being urged to sort out a blip which has left a number of newly-retired people without their pensions for up to three months.
Minister Brennan's department has sent them a letter advising of the delay in processing their applications.
The money will be refunded, but Fine Gael's finance spokesman in the Seanad John Paul Phelan maintained the whole situation wis a disgrace.
“It seems to be a temporary glitch in the system alright but temporary or otherwise it is completely unacceptable that people who have worked all their lives find themselves, at 66 years of age, having to wait three months to receive their pension, after they’ve retired,” he said.
