PSNI probe hit-and-run death
A man was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Co Derry today.
The victim, in his 30s, was struck by a vehicle on the Maghera Road, Tobermore, close to the Glenshane Pass.
As police hunted the driver, they shut off the section of the road where the collision happened just before 2am.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a teenager was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Belfast.
The 18-year-old man was walking along Upper Dunmurry Lane when the collision happened late last night.
He was taken to hospital for emergency treatment.
Although police said they were not treating this incident as a hit-and-run, they revealed that a Vauxhall Vectra later failed to stop for officers at the scene.
An 18-year-old man was arrested and taken for questioning.
Police also confirmed that an officer drew his gun during the incident.
The North's Police Ombudsman Nuala O’Loan has been informed, a spokesman added.
