Teen father of two pleads guilty to theft
A 17-year-old father of two, who took part in the theft of a woman’s wallet as she walked along Dublin’s Dawson Street, has been detained for four months.
The teenager, who is originally from Romania, had pleaded guilty to the theft which occurred on April 23 last.
The court was told that he already had 25 previous convictions, mostly for motoring offences and also one for theft.
Garda Niall O’Reilly of Pearse Street station told Judge Bryan Smyth that a girl took the wallet out of the woman’s handbag and passed it to the teenager who was beside her. The teen then threw it away as he was approached by a Garda who had been observing him.
Judge Smyth noted that the teen had continued to come to Garda attention recently and detained him for four months in St Patrick’s Institution.
