Minister for Social and Family Affairs Seamus Brennan has promised that consultations will begin shortly on a national strategy to support the estimated 150,000 carers in Ireland.

Speaking at the launch of an information pack for carers today, Mr Brennan also said he was committed to increasing benefits and supports for people who look after incapacitated friends and relatives.
