An Englishman is recovering in hospital in Dublin after being rescued off the coast of Skerries.

The man had arrived in Skerries from Poole in southern England and, after going ashore with his friends, tried to swim back out to his power boat.

The alarm was raised by a passer-by who realised that the swimmer was getting into difficulty and being carried away by the tidal current.

Skerries lifeboat was launched and the man was rescued and brought ashore.

He was seen by a doctor and taken to hospital by ambulance.

The man is now said to be in a comfortable condition.
