Court appearance for man after cash seizure

A man will appear in court tomorrow on terrorism charges after police in the North seized nearly £70,000 (€102,500) in cash.

The suspect, aged 41, was arrested during searches in Coalisland, Co Tyrone.

As well as recovering a small number of guns in the raids on Thursday, Organised Crime Branch detectives allegedly discovered around £68,000 (€99,584).

After he was questioned at a holding centre in Antrim the man arrested was charged with possession of money or property for the purposes of terrorism and concealing criminal property under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

He will appear at a special sitting of Dungannon Court tomorrow morning.

Police said the money seized has also been the subject of a detention application in Court under the same Act.

A spokeswoman confirmed they would be holding it whilst further enquiries are carried out.
