Two airlifted to safety off Sligo coast

A nine-year-old boy and a windsurfer are recovering this morning after being airlifted from the sea off the coast of Co Sligo yesterday.

The incident happened yesterday evening after the boy fell into the water while fishing from the pier in Easkey.

Two windsurfers went to his assistance and managed to save him from drowning.

A rescue helicopter was later sent to the scene and airlifted the youngster and one of the windsurfers to hospital, where they were treated for hypothermia and shock.
