Diver murder case jury sent to hotel

The jury of a trial of a man accused of murdering his wife ten years ago will re-commence its deliberations tomorrow morning after they failed to come up with a verdict.

John Diver, Kilnamanagh Road, Walkinstown, Dublin denies murdering his wife Geraldine at Robinhood Road, Clondalkin on December 2, 1996.

Ms Diver, a mother of two children who worked at the Coombe Women’s Hospital, was found, with a tie around her neck in the front seat of her car outside a builder’s providers around 10.40pm on December 2.

At the Central Criminal Court today the jury of seven men and five women retired to consider a verdict at 3.30pm.

Shortly after 7.05pm tonight the presiding Judge Mr Justice Philip O’Sullivan sent the jury to the hotel for the night, after the foreman informed that court that they had not reached a verdict.

The case is now in its third week.

In his charge to the jury the judge said that their verdict should be unanimous.

The will resume their deliberations later this morning.
