Green Party leader seeks Fahey resignation
The leader of the Green Party has called for the resignation of Junior Minister Frank Fahey following media reports of alleged misconduct in the “Lost at Sea” scheme.
It has been claimed that three quarters of the €2.8m compensation scheme for fishermen went to only two people, both of whom were known to Mr Fahey.
A report from the ombudsman is due in the coming weeks.
Trevor Sargent said the junior minister is bringing down the standards of public office.
“It does beg the question for the Taoiseach as to whether that's the standard he wants to see set, and if it is not the standard he wants to see set, and it's not a very high standard, then I think Mr Fahey has to go,” Mr Sargent said.
“I would prefer, for his own integrity and dignity point of view, that he would resign, but if he doesn't the Taoiseach should sack him.”
