Haughey state funeral cost taxpayers 'at least €330,000'

The state funeral of former Taoiseach Charles Haughey last month reportedly cost Irish taxpayers at least €333,000.

Reports this morning said the final bill for the funeral was still being added up, but Taoiseach Bertie Ahern had confirmed to the Labour Party that at least €330,000 had been spent on the event.

This reportedly includes €253,000 in costs incurred by the Office of Public Works, as well as €70,000 spent by the Department of the Taoiseach and another €5,000 spent by the Department of Defence.

This morning's reports said the final tally was expected to be higher, as the breakdown provided by Mr Ahern did not include staffing costs incurred by both departments.
