The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) is moving to allay fears about the introduction of workplace drug-testing.

The proposals are contained in the new Health and Safety at Work Act.

Drugs Advisory groups have expressed concern that recovering drug addicts could be sacked under the new laws.

However, the HSA has pointed out that the legislation is in its consultation phase and still has a long way to go before it is introduced.

Assistant Chief Executive of the HSA, Mary Dorgan, said today that many issues still have to be thoroughly teased out.
