Nationalists to mount legal challenge to Belfast parade

Nationalist residents from west Belfast are due to launch a last-minute court action today challenging the Parades Commission's decision to allow Orangmen to march through their community this weekend.

The commission has decided to allow 50 Orangemen to march through the so-called "peaceline" at Workman's Avenue as part of the Whiterock parade.

Last September, the same parade was re-routed, sparking a week of rioting by loyalists in which blast bombs and live ammunition were fired at police.

Local nationalist residents are seeking a judicial review of the commission's ruling to allow the march to go ahead this year.

A spokesman says there is no change in circumstances this year, so the parade should have been re-routed again.
