Liam Fitzgerald undecided about attending Haughey funeral

One of the so-called Gang of Four TDs who tried to oust Charles Haughey as Fianna Fáil leader in 1991 has said he is undecided about whether he will attend the former Taoiseach's funeral.

The vast majority of Fianna Fáil TDs and Senators are expected to attend Mr Haughey's State funeral on Friday.

However, Senator Liam Fitzgerald says he has reservations about attending given his personal divisions with the ex-Fianna Fáil leader.

"I am perplexed as to whether it is appropriate that I should attend his funeral," he said yesterday.

"I want to for a lot of positive, wonderful reasons, but I must seek wiser counsel to guide me to such a decision."
