Doctors switch off Laois hurler's life-support machine
The young Laois hurler who collapsed after suffering a brain haemorrhage during a training session on Sunday has died in hospital.
Jason Gilligan had been on a life-support machine at Portlaoise Hospital, but the machine was switched off last night with the consent of his family.
Gilligan had trained with the Laois senior hurling team, and was a member of the under-21 panel.
The 19-year-old, who is survived by his parents and two younger sisters, will be laid to rest on Thursday.
His family has agreed to donate his organs so that other lives may be saved.
