Firefighters continue to battle bog fires in several counties
Firefighters are continuing to battle a number of bog fires that have been burning in the midlands for several days.
The fire services spent the weekend tackling blazes over hundreds of acres of bogland in several counties.
The worst of the fires occurred at Bord na Mona works in Mountdillon and Derryhaun in Co Longford, where hundreds of tonnes of milled peat were destroyed last night.
At one stage, the Corlea interpretative centre in the village of Keenagh was under threat, while a number of private homes were also evacuated as a precaution.
Fire officers say the main fires have now been brought under control.
