Consultant fears one in six teenagers may have STI
It is feared as many as one in six Irish teenagers may have a sexually transmitted infection (STI).
Doctor Susan Clarke, a consultant at St James' Hospital in Dublin believes as many as 50,000 teenagers may have caught an STI.
The doctor, who is an infectious disease specialist, is quoted in today’s Sunday Tribune as saying many teenagers may be unaware they have contracted this type of infection and are passing it on to new partners.
Dr Clarke has called for a major campaign to highlight and deal with the problem.
