CURA to lose €600,000 funding over stance on leaflet

The Catholic Church's crisis pregnancy counselling service is reportedly set to lose €600,000 in annual funding due to its refusal to distribute a leaflet containing information on abortion.

The organisation stopped delivering the Positive Options leaflet from the State's Crisis Pregnancy Agency last year at the request of the Catholic bishops.

It emerged at the time that the move could see CURA losing the €600,000 it receives every year in funding from the CPA as it is required to distribute the leaflet as part of its contract with the agency.

Talks about the matter are still ongoing, but the latest edition of the Irish Catholic says sources close to those talks have revealed that, as things stand, the funding will be cut.
