Unmarried fathers group to mount protest at UN meeting
A group representing Irish fathers seeking greater access to their children is due to begin a four-day protest outside the United Nations offices in Geneva today.
The demonstration coincides with discussions on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which Ireland is a signatory.
The Unmarried Fathers of Ireland group claims the Irish Government is failing to comply with the provisions of the convention by allowing children to be separated from their fathers when relationships break up.
It says it is only taking its protest to the UN because its efforts to raise the matter in Ireland have been largely ignored.
