Mater chosen as site for new national children’s hospital
The Mater Hospital in Taoiseach Bertie Ahern's constituency has been chosen as the site for the planned new national children's hospital.
The 400-bed facility is set to replace the existing three children's hospitals in Temple Street, Crumlin and Tallaght.
Reports this morning said a task force set up to select the location had recommended that the hospital be built adjacent to the Mater and that this was approved by the Health Service Executive yesterday.
The move still needs cabinet approval, but this morning's reports said ministers were almost certain to give the project the green light.
