Gardaí hunt sex attacker

A 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in a Mayo town in the early hours of the morning.

The young woman was picked up by a car outside the Mantra nightclub in The Wellcome Inn in Castlebar at about 2am.

A Garda spokesman said the woman was attacked by the driver after being driven out along the Westport Road.

“The car drove off and she was left on the side of the road. She was picked up in a car by a young couple and taken home,” he said.

Gardaí are appealing for the couple, who are described as in their late teens or early twenties, to contact them at Castlebar garda station. They are also appealing to anyone who saw the woman get into the car outside the nightclub to come forward.
