Victims of child abuse have delivered a letter of protest this morning to the commission inquiring into their experiences.

The move by the Survivors of Child Abuse group follows comments made by a representative of the Christian Brothers during a sitting of the inquiry yesterday.

The representative accused some victims of making complaints for their own financial gain and conspiring with lawyers to fabricate evidence of abuse.

Speaking this morning, SOCA spokesman John Kelly said victims feel particularly aggrieved because they are not being given an opportunity to challenge the “outrageous” accusation before the inquiry.

He said the independence and integrity of the commission would be seriously compromised if victims were not allowed to put forward their side of the story in future.
