Horse breeder's killer given further jail term

The 20-year-old Waterford man convicted of murdering well-known horse breeder Richard 'Dick' Forristal, and given a life sentence for that crime, was today sentenced to a further three years in jail for the burglary which resulted in Mr Forristal's death.

The three-year jail term will run concurrently with the life sentence.

Anthony Barnes (aged 20), of Clonard Park, Ballybeg, Waterford city, had pleaded guilty at all times in the Central Criminal Court to burglary at the home of his victim at Carrigavantry Stud, Co Waterford on the 21st of July, 2005.

In sentencing Barnes, Mr Justice Paul Carney said he took his age, the advance notification of his guilty plea, and the fact that his previous convictions are minor compared to those of his co-accused, into account.
