Schoolboy falls out of moving bus in Monaghan

The gardaí and Bus Éireann have launched separate investigations into an incident in which a schoolboy fell out of a moving bus in Co Monaghan earlier this week.

The bus was travelling on the main Newtownhamilton road on Monday afternoon when the secondary school pupil fell out of the emergency door.

The teenager was taken to hospital in Drogheda and later moved to Beaumont in Dublin, where he is still being treated for head injuries.

Bus Éireann says the vehicle involved was fully fitted with seat-belts.

The incident happened less than a day before another of the company’s school buses caught fire while bringing pupils to school in Athboy, Co Meath, on Tuesday morning.
