HSE receives report into death at Monaghan Hospital

The Health Service Executive has reportedly received the findings of the inquiry into the death of Pat Joe Walsh at Monaghan General Hospital last year.

The 75-year-old died from a bleeding ulcer last October because doctors at Monaghan are not permitted to conduct emergency surgery.

Staff at the hospital tried to transfer him to three other hospitals, but were told that there were no intensive-care beds available. It emerged afterwards that all three hospitals did in fact have vacant beds.

An inquiry was established by the Government and reports this morning said its findings were presented to the HSE yesterday.

HSE lawyers will now reportedly examine the document before it is forwarded to Mr Walsh's family and made public.
