Three people have died after their foreign-registered car collided with another vehicle on the N9 in Co Carlow this morning.

Three people have died after their foreign-registered car collided with another vehicle on the N9 in Co Carlow this morning.

The accident happened just after 4am between Carlow town and Castledermot.

Two other people, including the driver of the other car, were also seriously injured in the crash.

Meanwhile, a man was also killed last night in a multiple pile-up on the M1 motorway between Dundalk and Drogheda in Co Louth.

The accident happened on the northbound section of the motorway near the Haynestown roundabout shortly before 10pm.

Another collision also happened on the southbound section of the motorway at around the same time, forcing gardaí to close the road between Dundalk and Drogheda for around two hours.
