Fine Gael says offenders should be electronically tagged
The Fine Gael Ard Fheis is continuing in Dublin today.
Four thousand delegates are expected to attend the conference to discuss the party's policies on health and the justice system among other topics.
In his opening address last night party leader Enda Kenny said serious crime suspects should be electronically tagged while on bail.
He said the Gardaí should be armed with the knowledge of the whereabouts of offenders seven days a week and 365 days a year.
Enda Kenny says 11 thousand serious crimes were committed by people on bail over the past two years.
