Met Éireann is preparing to issue further weather warnings as Storm Boelo, the second named storm of the season, is forecast to bring strong winds and heavy rain to Ireland this weekend.

The UK Met Office announced on Thursday afternoon that Storm Boelo would follow shortly after the first named storm of the season, Storm Austen, bringing further spells of heavy rain and strong winds.

The storm is expected to affect England, Scotland and Northern Ireland before tracking across the north-west of Ireland on Saturday morning.

Met Éireann said Storm Boelo would bring strong winds to the north and west of the country, along with heavy rain.

In a social media post, the forecaster said weather warnings would be issued in due course.

Storm Austen warnings remain in place

Meanwhile, several weather warnings are already in place as Storm Austen is forecast to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds from 7pm on Thursday.

An orange wind and rain warning covering Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Wexford, Wicklow and Dublin will remain in effect until 10am on Friday.

Expected impacts from Storm Austen include localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and displaced objects and debris.

Disruption and delays to public transport are expected during Storm Austen, with further disruption possible as Storm Boelo approaches over the weekend.
