Nurses to hold major pay rally in Dublin next month
The Irish Nurses Organisation is to hold a major rally next month as part of a campaign for improved pay and conditions for its members.
The organisation is seeking pay increases of more than 10% for nurses, as well as a special allowance for those based in Dublin to take account of the high cost of living in the capital.
It also wants a reduction in the working week from 39 hours to 35.
The organisation has decided to abandon benchmarking because it says the scheme is incapable of addressing a situation whereby some nurses get paid less than people they are supervising.
Delegates at the INO's annual conference in Co Cavan today voted to hold a rally at Croke Park in Dublin on June 14 to show their anger at the current situation before the pay claim comes before the Labour Court six days later.
