Gardaí standing firm in opposition to proposed reserve
The two main groups representing gardaí nationwide are reportedly standing firm in their opposition to the proposed garda reserve.
Reports this morning said speakers from the Garda Representative Association and the Association of Garda Sergeants both expressed intense opposition to the reserve at a meeting of Dublin gardaí last night.
The meeting was the latest in a series arranged by the GRA to discuss Justice Minister Michael McDowell's plans to hire thousands of part-time reservists to back up the gardaí.
The AGSI has already voted not to cooperate with the new recruits, while the GRA is to vote on a similar motion at its annual conference next week.
