A post mortem is due to be carried out today on the body of a baby that was found in Co Meath yesterday afternoon.

The remains, which were wrapped in blankets, were discovered in a disused shed around a mile from the village of Kildalkey by a man working on a nearby building site.

The gender and age of the infant have not been disclosed and it is unclear how long the body may have been in the shed.

Gardaí in Trim are appealing for anyone with information about the case to come forward in confidentiality.

They have also asked the mother to come forward and have promised to deal with her sympathetically.
