Rice makes Shannon pit-stop

There was a heightened security presence at Shannon Airport today, as the US Secretary of State paid a flying visit.

The plane carrying Condoleeza Rice made a brief refuelling stop at Shannon, on her way home from a trip to Iraq and Greece.

The US Secretary of State did not disembark the flight, and according to local Gardaí, her Co Clare pit-stop passed off without incident.

It was Condoleeza Rice's sixth visit to Shannon this year, making her the most regular visitor to Shannon airport from the current Bush administration.
