SIPTU to press McDowell on cash-in-transit security
Justice Minister Michael McDowell is due to meet SIPTU officials today to discuss security for the drivers of cash-in-transit vans.
The meeting follows a spate of armed robberies targeting such vehicles since the start of the year, including one in which shots were fired at the bullet-proof windscreen of one van.
SIPTU is seeking more armed garda escorts for ATM deliveries in the Dublin area, as well as more resources for the Gardaí to tackle the perpetrators of cash-in-transit robberies.
It also wants the removal of parking restrictions on cash-in-transit vans.
