Former IMO president bidding to contest general election

A former president of the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) today announced his intention to contest the next General Election for Fine Gael.

Dr James Reilly is seeking the nomination in the Dublin North constituency in a bid to regain the seat once held by the party’s former Justice Minister Nora Owen.

Dr Reilly said he was hopeful of success in the party’s selection convention on May 2.

“The people of North Dublin were justly represented by one of Fine Gael’s finest politicians, Nora Owen,” he said.

“I believe that this General Election will see Fine Gael regaining its rightful seat in Dublin North – and I am ready to work solidly to make this happen.

“The current Government has failed to deliver to the communities of Fingal - it is only with a change of Government that these people will see crucial service and infrastructural improvement. I would be honoured to represent Fine Gael in Dublin North.”

Dr Reilly, the current IMO representative at the World Medical Association, is married with five children and has worked as a GP in the north County Dublin area for the past 23 years, with surgeries in Lusk and Donabate.

He was recently involved in the development of a new town centre in Lusk to provide medical facilities for the growing population, including X-Ray services, ultrasound, dentistry, and physiotherapy.
