Father and daughter killed in Galway house fire

An elderly man and his daughter have died in a fire at a house in Co Galway this morning.

The blaze broke out on the Gilmartin Road in Tuam at around 2.30am.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services, a 79-year-old man and his 49-year-old daughter – herself a mother-of-three – died before they could be rescued.

They have been named locally as Larry Cavanagh and Rose Condon.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but gardaí are not treating it as suspicious.
