The driver of the schoolbus involved in this month's fatal crash in Co Offaly was reportedly driving without a full licence.

Reports this morning said the driver had handed over a provisional licence to gardaí investigating the crash near Clara on April 4.

The reports also said the owner of the vehicle had failed to produce any evidence to show that it was insured.

It has already emerged that the bus at the centre of the accident should not have been carrying schoolchildren as it did not have a licence for public transport.

A 15-year-old boy, Michael White, died when the bus overturned around two kilometres from Clara while bringing students to school in Rahan.

The rear axle of the vehicle became detached during the crash and reports earlier this month said rust marks appeared to indicate that a bracket holding it in place may have been detached for some time.
