Five due in court over attempted raid on bookies
Five men are due to appear in court today in connection with an attempted robbery on a Dublin bookmakers.
All five have been charged with an offence under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, and attempted robbery, and are expected before Dun Laoghaire District Court.
Gardaí foiled a raid on a bookmakers in Deansgrange Road, Dun Laoghaire, at about 8pm on Monday night. A firearm was recovered at the scene. No shots had been fired and no-one was injured during the incident.
Meanwhile, officers are continuing to investigate an aggravated burglary at the Cabra home of bookmaker Peter Fitzsimons, also around 8pm on Monday.
Two men entered his home on Kinvara Road, where his wife Mary was alone. The raiders waited for him to return from Fairyhouse Racecourse with his takings, fleeing with a quantity of cash and his car, which was later found abandoned.
