A female pedestrian has died and her male companion was seriously injured after they were struck by a car in Co Wicklow just before 8pm last night.

A female pedestrian has died and her male companion was seriously injured after they were struck by a car in Co Wicklow just before 8pm last night.

The accident happened at Blainroe near Wicklow town on the coast road.

Two passengers who were travelling in the car were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin for treatment. The driver of the car escaped unhurt.

The woman who died at the scene was removed to Loughlinstown hospital, while the male pedestrian was taken to Beaumont Hospital.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man died following a head-on collision between two cars in Co Kildare.

The accident happened at Castledillion, near Straffan at around 10.20pm last night.

One woman suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Naas hospital. Two other people suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Gardaí have confirmed that he was from the Clane in Co Kildare.
