McCreevy convinced of cautious spending of SSIAs

Former Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy has said he has faith that the public will spend their SSIAs sensibly.

Former Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy has said he has faith that the public will spend their SSIAs sensibly.

The special savings accounts, which begin to mature this year, were his brainchild.

Mr. McCreevy, now the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, says the public are more than capable of deciding for themselves what to do with the windfall.

But while he said he believes people will be sensible, his has warned them to be very cautious with their spending.
