Man in critical condition after street beating

A man in his 20s was in a critical condition in hospital today after being assaulted in south Dublin.

The man was socialising with friends in Dun Laoghaire but was attacked after 3am at Corrig Avenue near the junction with Main Street.

A Garda spokeswoman said the man received a head injury in the assault and was taken to Beaumont Hospital in a critical condition.

She appealed for anyone with information to contact Dun Laoghaire Garda Station on 01-6665000.

Officers have preserved the scene of the assault for technical examination.
