Gardaí not to invest in water cannons

Garda chiefs will not be investing in a water cannon to assist crowd control if there is future rioting in the country.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell said that while equipment to assist in police operations is continually under review, purchase of a water cannon is not warranted at this stage.
