5,000 Roscommon homes have water restored

Water has been restored to more than 5,000 Co Roscommon homes left without supplies for almost a week, but householders have been advised to boil the water before drinking it.

Supplies to more than 7,000 homes were cut off after a diesel spill into Lake Lisheen.

County Council officials worked through the night to pump water from a temporary supply at Grange Lake because contamination at the main source will take time to clean up.

A local quarry company has admitted the spillage may have happened during an oil delivery to their plant.

Schools in the region are expected to re-open tomorrow after being closed for most of last week.
