There were 16,170 births registered in the third quarter of 2005, up 565 on the same period in 2004, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said today.

There were 16,170 births registered in the third quarter of 2005, up 565 on the same period in 2004, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said today.

The number is a 24% increase on 1996 when 13,015 babies were registered and represents an annual birth rate of 15.7 per 1,000 of the population.
