Trial over librarian's murder should last six weeks

The trial of a 23-year-old man charged with the murder of retired Co Tyrone librarian Attracta Harron is expected to last at least six weeks.

A jury of six men and six women were sworn in at Dungannon Court today to hear the case, which is due to open tomorrow.

Trevor William Hamilton, unemployed, of Concess Road, Sion Mills, Co Tyrone is charged with the murder of 65-year-old Strabane woman Mrs Harron.

She disappeared on December 11, 2003, while walking home after attending Mass at a church just across the border in Lifford, Co Donegal.

The accused, who was a student at the time of the murder, was detained and charged some three months after the mother of five disappeared.

Her body was found a month after he was charged.

Hamilton sat impassively in the dock handcuffed to a guard while it took nearly two hours to select a jury.
