The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has rejected criticism of the level of profits being made by Irish banks.

Speaking in the Dáil this morning, Labour Party leader Pat Rabbitte accused the main banks of ripping off their customers, claiming they were making three times as much profit per customer as their European competitors.
